Dow talks water-related processing tech at IFT

Jon Fisher, Healthcare and specialty nutrition commercial leader with Dow Water & Process Solutions, told FPD that food manufacturers are increasingly looking to do more with less when it comes to purification.

“Essentially people in the industry are looking to improve their process economics,”​ Fisher said. “They’re also looking for processes that are greener, and at improving their carbon footprint.”​

Fisher pointed out that food and beverage manufacturers are interested in harnessing various water-related technologies, such as membrane products, to boost process efficiency as well as product quality. Additionally, processors are looking to conserve costs wherever they find the opportunity.

“In a lot of existing processes, people might use active carbon to remove or capture color,” ​he said. “Active carbon is expensive; it has to be replaced often and then disposal is also an issue. We have resins that can be reused for hundreds of cycles, to improve process economy in that way.”​
