Gualapack has opened a production facility in San Jose, Costa Rica to manufacture the complete Cheerpack DP range, a spouted stand up pouch.

The product is used in products including fruit puree and baby food (together with the Gualapack patented anti-choking BabyCap), dairy snacks and beverages, sauces and condiments.

The pouches can be found on the shelves of retail chains, including Babies “R” Us, Target, Wal-Mart Stores and Whole Foods Market.

More than 30 employees have been hired to work at the facility, which will cover the Central-South American continent (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and Honduras.

The Gualapack Group hopes to employ more than 160 people at the factory by 2017.

The announcement comes after Gualapack opened a production facility in Romania two years ago and completed a joint venture in the US in 2011.

A spokesman said it wanted to open a site in Costa Rica because the country has a ‘unique geographical location’ with access to the sea.
