The former US Secretary of State (and likely 2016 presidential candidate) will make a speaking stop at the Food Marketing Institute’s FMI Connect event.

Clinton is slated to deliver the keynote address at FMI Connect, taking place in Chicago, on June 10. The appearance is her first stop promoting her recently released book, Hard Choices, which officially releases that day.

Food history

The former Secretary of State has a history of working with the food industry, and of speaking out on supply-chain issues. She appeared before the United Nations in 2012 to address global food security.

We must act now effectively and cooperatively to blunt the negative impact of rising food prices and protect people and communities,” she said during the UN address. “We need to respond to the current climb in prices with immediate action while simultaneously deepening our commitment to long-term investments in agriculture and food security worldwide.”

Leadership session

FMI president/CEO Leslie Sarasin said Clinton’s presence at FMI connect will benefit attendees with energy and leadership insights.

Secretary Clinton’s participation will bring a special energy to our general session, and we are looking forwarding to hearing her insights,” she said.

FMI Connect is an event that gathers food brand owners, wholesalers, packaging companies, and other professionals to hammer out issues important to the food industry. It includes more than 40 educational sessions and 900 exhibitors, and it is expected to draw approximately 15,000 exhibitors.

Packaging focus

PMMI: The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies is producing the PMMI-PACK EXPO Possibilities in Packaging Pavilion. According to Charles D. Yuska, PMMI president and CEO, the specialized show area will tackle one of the most important aspects of food industry success.

Packaging plays a critical role in the consumer marketplace,” he said. “The PMMI–PACK EXPO Possibilities in Packaging Pavilion” at FMI Connect will explore some of the ways packaging is engaging consumers in 2014, and how to make things like new packaging formats, graphics and new technologies work for your products.”
