Nordson opens Shanghai technical center

The center will initially focus on Nordson's hot melt adhesive dispensing products and systems for customers in paper-based packaging, non wovens, electronics, consumer goods and general product assembly end markets.

James Jaye, director, communications and investor relations, Nordson Corporation, told FoodProductionDaily it started moving staff into the centre in January and it officially opened last month.

“The competition never rests.  For Nordson that means we have to earn our customers’ business every day and consistently provide them with the best overall value proposition. The technical center helps us to continue delivering this value​,” he said. 

Nordson has been operating in China since 1990, and the technical center will complement its other facilities in Beijing, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Suzhou.

It will also support the Nordson EFD brand of precision fluid dispensing products which are sold to customers in a variety of electronics, medical and general industrial end markets.

Jaye added, the company continues to see growth opportunities in China with trends toward greater urbanization and a consumption economy.

“One of the biggest areas we see growth in is packaged foods and beverages. Nordson offers glue dispensing products to seal cartons and boxes and we have a range of products to make plastic flexible packaging, which is becoming more and more prevalent​,” he said. 

“We also manufacture equipment for dispensing coatings inside metal food and beverage cans​.” 

Jaye said it has a large manufacturing center just minutes away from the technical center, which means it can react ‘quickly to the needs’ of the Asian market.

“We want to leverage the investments we’ve made in China, including the Tech Center in Shanghai and last year’s expansion and upgrade of our facility in Suzhou​,” he added. 

“These facilities will support customers not only in China, but throughout greater Asia​.  

“For the company as a whole, we want to add to our product and technology portfolio with strategic acquisitions where they make sense​.” 

Nordson engineers, manufactures and markets products and systems used for dispensing and processing adhesive, coatings, polymers, sealants and biomaterials; and for managing fluids, testing and inspecting for quality, treating surfaces and curing.
