Winkler Plastic in California, US, has changed its name to Nuconic Packaging as part of a rebranding initiative.

The company manufactures thermoformed PET-based plastic containers for the bakery, produce, confectionery and snack industry. Products include cake packaging domes, and bowls for fruit, salad and salad kits.

Aggressive expansion

Alan Franz, CEO, said the decision to raise awareness of the company comes after it upgraded to a TSL thermoformer to produce PET containers and received an 'A' rating in its food safety audit from BRC.

The name is an amalgamation of several words;new (Nu), containers (con), and plastic (ic).

It’s an aggressive expansion and improvement plan as we invest in new technology, increase our capabilities in tooling and design, and improved customer service and achievement of BRC Food Safety Certification,” said Franz.

He added the TSL will ‘dramatically’ decrease the appearance of 'plug lines' in its tubs and improve the overall consistency and clarity of its products.

BRC rating

Speaking of the BRC rating, recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarking committee Franz said: "This is the most stringent level of food safety certification for our market and we've worked hard to achieve this important added value for our food processing customers."

"Few US thermoforming companies abide by the GFSI Standard. Achieving the ‘A’ rating moves us to the top of the list of companies meeting such standards.”

The firm has appointed Francisco Diaz as director of operations and engineering and Lupe Meneses as customer service manager.

PWP/Pactiv

Diaz, former engineering manager at PWP Industries, has experience in tool machining, product design and engineering management, while Meneses spent 11 years at PWP/Pactiv Industries.
I worked with Lupe at PWP/Pactiv so I know she's the best person to help us to take what was good customer service to an even higher level,” added Franz.

Our recent growth has prompted us to expand the customer service department to better support sales and production."
