And the winner is… ProCarton/ECMA Awards 2014
The judges said the design of the Peppersmith Clipstrip produced by The Alexir Partnership and manufactured by BillerudKorsnas was ‘deceptively simple’ but effective for display packaging.
Individual cartons at POS
Designed to hold small boxes of peppermints, the display can be hung up at the point of sale where consumers can remove the individual cartons.
The idea for the Gelato Box by Pringraf came about after brand owner Aloha wanted a box that looked like a wicker basket.
The cartonboard was manufactured by Stora Enso and the wicker structure was created through a lasered surface which was more sustainable and less expensive.
Clever micro cutting
The carton was made with a matt finish using the reverse side of the cartonboard on the outside and the white top surface of the board on the inside. Through some very clever micro cutting it was possible to see the contents, giving the carton an attractive look and feel.
The judges agreed the Confiserie Reber Advent Calendar with carton-inlay by Mayr-Melnhof Packaging Austria was extremely sophisticated.
“The wells for the sweets are backed with spirally cut cartonboard to hold the sweet firmly in position. After removal of the sweet the section pops up so that the overall look of the box is not compromised,” they said.
This system for holding sweets was made entirely of cartonboard and replaced the previously used styrofoam. The judges felt this was a remarkable single material product and much easier to recycle after use.
