Ardagh signs supply agreement with ConAgra Foods

Ardagh Group is to invest $250m in two new can making facilities to convert the majority of ConAgra Foods’ shelf-sized cans from traditional 3-piece can to flexible DWI (Drawn and Wall-Ironed) technology.

The US food can supply agreement will start from 1 January 2015 using Ardagh’s process.

The facilities will have the capability to manufacture Ardagh’s pressurized thin-wall DWI food cans recently launched in Europe.

James Willich, Ardagh group metal Americas CEO, said: “Our approach to DWI will allow ConAgra Foods to convert many lower-volume, specialty shelf sizes to this process, something that has not been feasible with the traditional DWI installations.”
