Cold-glue dispenser pre-warms adhesive

A new cold-glue dispenser can cut down on labelling costs by pre-warming the adhesive to its optimum processing temperature, claims its manufacturer.

When the adhesive containers are changed at cold-glue labellers, consumption usually shows an initial rise, since the adhesive is not yet at top processing temperature, said Germany-based KIC Krones.

The company's new Glue Dispenser warms up the adhesive to the processing temperature in the pipes. Then the glue is transferred to the container provided.

"This leads to significantly reduced adhesive consumption when changing the containers at the machine, and thanks to optimised temperature control to a consistent adhesive quality," Krones claimed.

The dispenser takes about three minutes to pre-warmed the adhesive. The machine's operator can then bring optimum-temperature containers to the labeller.

The adhesive is supplied from a 1000-litre container, which is installed on the Glue Dispenser.

The design reduces both the residual quantities in the container and also the number of units requiring disposal, Krones claimed.

The container can be tilted using a hand-crank, allowing it to be emptied completely. In addition, its central positioning reduces the amount of intra-plant logistics needed, Krones claimed.
