Crown Speciality Packaging is offering premium food and beverage brands in Europe easier access to a form of tin design intended to make their products stand out more.

Its ‘seated end’ tins have an inverted bottom curl, which is concealed when the packaging is placed on a flat surface. In addition, the firm said its own seated end variant provided a more robust tin.

The format is aimed at whiskeys, wines, spirits, biscuits, confectionery and other luxury and limited-edition products.

More sizes and shapes

The technology can initially be applied to tins of 100mm x 100mm format with capability for a variety of heights, with plans to launch more sizes and shapes in the near future, said Crown.

It added that its in-house design team was available to work on bespoke packaging design projects and that it offered innovation and development of new products at its Innovation Centre in Wantage, Oxfordshire.

The company claimed the start of European production for the can design enabled manufacturers interested in adopting it reduced lead times and enhanced supply chain reliability.

Visual edge

“New packaging such as the seated end tin enables brands to gain a visual edge, grabbing the consumer’s eye and boosting sales,” said Véronique Curulla, European marketing manager for Crown Speciality Packaging Europe.

She said Crown had developed the seated end technology in Europe to offer brand owners “a greater choice of packaging formats, helping them differentiate their products … and express their brand’s identity”.

Crown is planning to showcase the packaging for the first time in Europe at the ProSweets exhibition in Cologne, Germany, on January 27-30, 2013.
