Eastman Chemical Company claims that its third-quarter 2008 earnings per share are expected to beat analysts' estimates.

The company, which produces PET polymers for packaging, said that the improved earnings per share were driven by higher operating earnings primarily due to a recent decline in raw material and energy costs, higher sales revenue, and cost reductions that offset lower sales volume due to softening demand.

Third-quarter 2008 sales and earnings will be released on 23 October, said Eastman.
