When Grand Rapids, MI-based Butterball Farms wanted to expand its line of molded butters, PolyOne Packaging Solutions’s Intelliform form-fill-seal sheet helped make it possible.

Butterball Farms specializes in creating custom butter balls using molds made of form-fill-seal sheet, heat drawn into design molds on the line during production. The molds are filled with soft butter then flash frozen, packaged and shipped.

Looking to expand

The butter producer wanted to bolster its offerings with a number of designs that required form-fill-seal sheet thicker than 5 mil. Unfortunately, its previous supplier was unable to fill the order.

PolyOne Packaging Solutions stepped up and provided 7-mil HIPS form-fill-seal Intelliform sheets. Before committing to the material, the Butterball Farms team ran samples through production to test the material; the product reportedly performed according to specifications from the first test.

Meeting expectations

According to the Butterball Farms team, the material continues to meet the company's exacting demands and production requirements.

“It’s working extremely well on the machines we have,” Ken Berry, Butterball Farms purchasing manager, reported to FoodProductionDaily.com. “It’s been above my expectations.”
