Toray Plastics has expanded its line of polyester lidding films designed to withstand oven temperatures of up to 400° F.

LumiLid polyester films have been certified as FDA compliant when used in oven temperatures up to 400° F for 30 minutes. The line includes clear, white, and metallized films for refrigerated and frozen entrees, sides, desserts, and any other edibles that call for high heat when cooking or reheating.

Packaging options

Milan Moscaritolo, senior director of sales for Toray Plastics (America), told FoodProductionDaily the product stands out because of its FDA compliance.

End users now have more options for product design and greater latitude in how they deliver their product to consumers,” he said.

The LumiLid films include speciality film and sealant layers, which reportedly impart the material with a high degree of performance and seal strength. According to the company, the products deliver a good oxygen barrier, low seal initiation temperature, and environmentally friendly, solvent-free formulation, which preserves flavor integrity.

Material flexibility

The films are said to supply clean, secure seals to a range of materials, including APET, APET-coated board, CPET, PP, HDPE, and HIPS trays. Additionally, the films can be printed with graphics or text to help support the brand.

Toray’s LumiLid films can be used with a broad sealant range. Additionally, the company said, they offer good hot-tack and thermal stability, mechanical properties (i.e. strength, dimensional stability, and optical clarity), and performance on high-speed equipment.
