Multivac has unveiled two stand-alone conveyor systems with adjustable lanes and speeds that can be retrofitted to thermoforming packaging machines.

The Multivac conveyor systems (MBS) 120 and 220, introduced this month and available worldwide, perform a variety of pack in-feeding, discharging and other functions, including the ejection of reject packs.

They are extendable from two to six lanes, can converge up to 80 or 140 packs per minute and can be fitted to the German-based firm’s or other manufacturers’ machines.

Current competitive systems are not as easy to operate or as eco-friendly, the company claim.

Big demand

Natalie Schmid, product manager of thermoforming at Multivac told FoodProductionDaily.com: “We [have] sold several units to customers and we see there [is] a big demand for our customers with [the] old type of packaging machine or with competitor packaging machines.

The MBS is made for converging of packages which are produced in a thermoforming packaging machine or a traysealer.”

The thermoforming packaging machines can be equipped with tool sets to manage multiple track and row configuration, she added.

Separate conveyor systems

Both machines are equipped with a separate IPC 02 machine control, work independently of upstream and downstream systems and are designed for ejection of rejected packs on an individual lane basis.

Schmid said: “[With a] downstream system you could have a metal detector, x-ray inspection, check weigher, weigh price labeller and the upstream system could be a thermoforming packaging machine or a traysealer.

If the packaging machine produces four tracks there is often a big requirement to singulate them afterwards in case of metal detection, x-ray or any other kind of downstream detection system,” she added.

It could not be used for infeed into a packaging machine, but for infeeding into a detection system.”

Both versions use a blue ThermoDrive feed conveyor from Intralox, suited for hygienic applications in the food processing industry and are simple to clean and disinfect, said Multivac.
