Oaktree Capital Management is said to be seeking to off-load the German firm with a host of bidders thought to be interested. Among the prospective buyers are believed to be Sun Capital Partners, which owns several companies in the sector, including US flexible packaging firm Exopack, and European packaging maker Veriplast.

The company was founded in 1966 and employs more than 3,000 staff. Its 2008 turnover topped €730m. Nordenia's range of flexible packaging, technical films and other products includes packing for Tyson Foods Inc meal kits.
