Speaking with DairyReporter.com at drinktec 2013 in Munich last month, Graphic Packaging's director of global marketing, Roxanne McSpadden, explained why the US packaging firm has turned its attentions to the increasingly-sophisticated Chinese dairy industry.
According to McSpadden, demand for the Atlanta-based company's paperboard packaging expertise is on the up in China, as more and more dairy processors in the country make the move from hand packing products to automated packing lines.
"We're seeing a lot of value in China," said McSpadden, "in that the paperboard helps hold together multi-packs and gives them a brand presence on the shelf."
"The paperboard helps them do that versus other materials and stand out at shelf [level]."
"Before we really focused on dairy, we were focused on beverages in that market, and we still do beverages as well, so its just a further evolution of a business that has been in place for many years in the region," McSpadden added.
