Resin provides safer chemistry for food packaging film - company
The Grinsted AR100 can be used with bi-axially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and polypropylene (PP) film "to meet strong industry demand for chemically safe food packaging."
The resin, launched this month, performs as well as current available films, with the anti-stat solution preventing charge build up on the polymer and protecting the packaging.
Research boost
Mick Potenza, DuPont polymer additives account manager, told FoodProductionDaily.com the research would help improve the delivery performance of the film.
“It was an innovative process to make the solution amine free and perform safely.
“The most important thing is it is deemed safe for food contact[because]there is a limit in the amount of chemicals that can be used in direct contact with the product.
“There was a demand from our consumers and companies for a food-grade anti-stat to replace amine products and it will benefit users through the food packaging chain.”
Market demand
Bjarne Nelsen, senior applications manager, DuPont polymer additives said: “DuPont has strength and depth in antistat solutions for polyolefins, and our new product is something that the market has been seeking for some time.
“Antistats are an important additive in many different packaging applications serving a well-defined purpose: preventing the attraction of dust and other fine particles to the polymer surface that would otherwise render a packaged product unattractive.
“There is a widespread desire today to avoid traditional ethoxylated amine chemistry wherever possible as demands for unquestioned safe chemistry in food packaging grow steadily.”
The resin will be unveiled at the US-based International Plastics Showcase (NPE) alongside other bio-based additives resulting from the firms acquisition of food emulsifiers producer, Danisco.
