SIG CombiBloc has unveiled plans to roll out new packaging formats to handle soups with bigger pieces.
The carton packaging manufacturer said it is planning to target the trend for bulkier soups containing more ingredients like vegetables and meat. The new CombiblocMidi will be spearheading this effort.
Cindy Haast, SIG Combibloc marketing manager for Europe North, said: “In sectors such as soup, consumers are looking for more content such as meat and vegetables and our forthcoming formats, such as the CombiblocMidi, will be able to handle larger particulates, enabling our customers to respond flexibly to changing trends and consumer expectations.”
Referring to the CombiblocMidi product in particular, Haast said: “This new format is already in use at the Campbell Soup Company in France.”
Haast was unable to elaborate on the plans to roll out the product further, as the company is still preparing press information on the CombiblocMidi.
SIG Combibloc is a major system supplier of carton packaging and filling machines for beverages and food. The bulk of its business is focused on the beverage market where its products are used to package a wide variety of drinks such as wine, milk and juice.
But the company does have a presence in the food sector as well, preparing packs for soups and tomato based products as well as sauces and desserts. It expects smaller segments such as sauces and desserts to exhibit high growth rates in the future, while continued growth is anticipated for soup and tomato based products.
In 2009 SIG Combibloc achieved a turnover of €1.2bn and employs around 4,250 employees in 40 countries. It is part of the New Zealand based Rank Group.
