Dry Pak has launched its new Label Safe programme, which is designed for applications where temperature control of perishable foods is crucial to food safety.
Key to the programme are reversible temperature-indicating labels which are placed in visible yet strategic refrigerated locations to enableeasy temperature monitoring at a glance. As part of the Label Safe programme,Dry Pak also offers on-site audits of restaurant and other foodstorage facilities and foodservice distributor practices, and thenrecommends actions that assure foodservice HACCP compliance by eliminatingtemperature abuse problems; such audits can help maintain ratings by health department inspectors, the company claims.
The reversible labels employ the latest liquid crystal ink technology which, when encapsulated in an indicating label, can quicklyindicate current temperature conditions to an accuracy of plus-or-minus onedegree Fahrenheit (0.6 centigrade). The current temperature displays as a bright green bar ona black background of the label. These low cost indicating labels aremanufactured on a flexible material with magnetic or sticky backings and canbe placed easily inside deli cases, walk-in coolers, freezers and nearcold-stored foods in supermarket displays.
"Temperature abuse is one of the leading causes of food borne illness andhealth department foodservice violations," said Brad Wolk, president of DryPak Industries, based in California, US.
The reversible temperature indicating labels are guaranteed to last one year from date of manufacture, and are FDA approved for use near food products.Dry Pak's HACCP trainers recommend using one label per deli case section, multiple labels for the various quadrants of industrial freezers andfoodservice distribution trucks, and four labels for a standard-size industrial walk-in cooler.
To provide information on food storage temperatures all through thedistribution system, Dry Pak also supplies irreversible labels that indicateif a critical temperature threshold has been violated.
