Equipment supplier TNA has launched what it claims is the world’s first vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) rotary polyethylene packaging system.

The TNA robag FXIS 3ci can bag pre-wrapped candies and fresh and frozen vegetables and salads.

TNA said that the machine could handle speeds of 150bpm and would deliver up to 99% of a manufacturer’s target output.

Jaw design

The machine includes a rotary jaw design that uses impulse sealing technology to give accurate and consistent packaging, said the company.

The jaw is a rotary double flat jaw (RDFJ) that TNA claims doubles the throughput compared to the market standard single jaw packaging machines.

The machine has reduced product waste compared to previous versions by optimizing transfer from the multi-head scale to the jaws.

Film changes & energy consumption

Michael Green, managing director for TNA, said:  “The TNA robag FXIS 3ci really is a groundbreaking addition to our existing innovative packaging portfolio, and expands our capabilities to an even wider range of applications.”

TNA added that no mechanical adjustments were required to change films or the product and said the machine ate up only a small amount of floor space

“It also helps to meet sustainability goals through minimal air and power consumption, as well as standby options within the software,” said the company."

TNA is exhibiting the new machine at PackExpo in Chicago, US, which is taking place between October 28 and 30.
