Canada’s first organic preservative and disinfectant

Biosecur has just received official certification from the US Department of Agriculture, National Organic Program and the organic control and certification group Ecocert.

Designed for use as a broad-spectrum preservative and disinfectant for food products and food processing, it kills more than 99.999 per cent of common bacteria just 15 to 30 seconds after contact, according to independent laboratory tests.

Effective at low doses, the product proved effective against common pathogens at concentrations of only 0.5 to 2 per cent.

Its broad-spectrum antimicrobial efficacy is effective against bacteria, fungi and yeast.

Citrus fruit​

In addition to its disinfectant properties, Biosecur is said to be a highly effective preservative derived from 100 per cent organic citrus fruit. It does not contain grapefruit.

As a natural, organic food additive with GRAS status, Biosecur preserves and disinfects fresh and processed foods before distribution to the retail market, said the company. “In addition to its proven antimicrobial efficacy against bacteria, yeasts and molds, Biosecur could also control odors and color in foods​.”

And it can replace potentially harmful chemicals used in the production and processing of foods such as sodium nitrite, benzoates, potassium metabisulphite and sodium metasulphite and chlorine.

Biosecur is 100 per cent water soluble making makes it easy-to-use in standard manufacturing processes and formulations, said the company.

Organic alternative​

The product’s eco-friendly credentials are a major benefit, claims Biosecur Lab. “Since many traditional synthetic chemical contain substances that are raising growing safety concerns, the demand for an organic alternative has never been higher,”​ said a company statement.

The product is said to provide a healthy, chemical-free alternative for their preservative and disinfectant needs for use in the food sector together with cosmetic, personal care, industrial, medical and veterinary applications.
