Capsugel wins French organic certification for six formulations
Giant pharmaceutical and food supplement formulation and manufacturing enterprise, Capsugel, has achieved European Union organic certification for it manufacturing facility in Colmar, France.

The facility makes its vegetarian Licaps capsules there and the certification includes six formulations and the manufacturing process for all of them.

“With growing customer demand for high quality organic health and nutrition products, Capsugel worked closely with the Bureau Veritas to secure an Organic Certification for finished products using our established plant-based Licaps liquid-filled capsules,” said Erasmo Schutzer, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Capsugel.

“With our expertise, we can support customers in developing new organic finished products – including feasibility testing and certification requests – using our next generation plant-based Licaps capsules.”

Capsugel uses Vcaps Plus technology using plant derived cellulose called Hypromellose (HPMC) to manufacture Licaps, whose one-piece hermetically sealed shells contain no gelling agents.

“The organic certification of Capsugel’s Colmar facility for plant-based Licaps capsules adds to the company’s comprehensive line of vegetarian products for the healthcare market,” said Catherine Lehmann, director of marketing for EMEA.

Capsugel recently launched DRcaps, an acid resistant, slow digestion vegetarian capsule that is low moisture, reduces coating cost and offers extended shelf life.

“It also has an acid-resistant hypromellose shell that masks the taste and odor of ingredients and minimizes the risk for reflux,” the company said.
