Janet E. Collins, PhD, RD, CFS (senior manager at DuPont) has been named president of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT).
Collins will lead IFT members and staff in advancing the group’s mission to advance food safety and quality. She is the first IFT president to be both a food scientist and a registered dietician.
At DuPont , she works with food professionals, trade associations and others to face challenges common to the industry and bring about science-based solutions. As IFT's leader, she will continue to speak out on a range of topics (such as food safety, regulations, dietary guidance and more) to further the group's mission.
“As IFT approaches its 75th anniversary next year, we have a unique opportunity to show the world the positive impact of food science and the technology on the global food system,” she said.
One of Collins’s first official duties as IFT president will be leading the presentation on nutritional labelling at a dinner meeting of the group’s Chicago chapter on September 9. The address will touch upon meeting government requirements for food labelling, and presenting consumers with helpful, relevant information.
