A modular filtration system designed for purifying air ensures dust levels in food production plants are far below the most stringent hygiene standards, its manufacturer claims.

Food production plants are particularly susceptible to airborne bacterial and viral organisms that can lead to contamination and managers must control the levels to ensure compliance with hygiene regulations.

Preventing airborne pathogens spreading within working environments also helps to prevent illness among employees.

Fette's Cephir machine is a high filtration and containment system. It is equipped with a self cleaning particulate air filter, which safely removes and contains high volumes dust from the air, claims the manufacturer.

The bag-in bag-out filter can also be fitted to production machines to capture the fine dust produced before it escapes.

The Cephir can be customised for a variety of dust handling situations, including as a continuous bag-in bag-out system, or as split valve, isolator and wash-in-place.

The modular design ensures the filter system can be easily upgraded, while the parallel swing doors and pull-out control cabenet allow access when required, claims Fette.

Although compact at 40 x 30x 90 inches (101 x 76 x 229 cm), the system is robust enough to withstand pressures and is shock-resistant, its manufacturer claims.

The system features a control interface MES/Scada system and a filter cassette with leak test gasket. Also included is a blower with a variable frequency drive, air volume measuring control, and DOP measuring lances with ports inside the control cabinet.

The Cephir can become mobile if optional wheels are fitted to the unit.

The system will be on display at the Interphex Show in New York held in March 2007.

Wilhelm Fette GmbH is one of five privately owned companies in the Leitz Group, all of which are located in Germany. The company also has operations worldwide, include a subsidiary in the US.
