An EU project involving 15 partners from 10 countries is to develop a robot that can package fresh food products.
Wagenigen UR is coordinating the €9m PicknPack project to find solutions for automating the quality inspection and packaging on food.
The aim is to boost food sorting quality and increase productivity as a robot can work continuously, is more accurate and can work in more hostile conditions.
More details on the project will be available next month, according to Erik Pekkeriet of Wageningen UR.
Other participants include Teknologisk Institut (Denmark), Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Angewandten Forschung E.V (Germany) and Instituto Tecnologico del Embalaje, Transporte Y Logistica Itene (Spain).
