A processing firm has signed a deal to use EnWave Corp.’s dehydration technology on its dehydrated meat products.
Campofrio Food Froup, a European meat processor, plans to use EnWave’s REV (radiant energy vacuum) dehydration system to create dried-meat snacks for commercialization. According to the company, Campofrio’s growth plan involves tapping into new category trends and adapting to take advantage of changing consumer preferences.
According to Karl-Heinz Kiesel, senior vice president of Operations and Strategic Sourcing for Campofrio, “EnWave's REV technology will allow Campofrio to explore new product development opportunities and potentially address some of the changing needs of consumers in Europe."
Tim Durance, chairman and CEO of EnWave, said, “Campofrio is a first-class, experienced company that has the potential to address multiple European markets in this area.”
Campofrio’s portfolio of consumer products includes dry and cooked meats, hot dogs, pizzas, ready meals and fresh meats. The firm operates throughout Europe and America.
EnWave REV dehydration reportedly is faster and cheaper than freeze drying, with better resulting product quality than air or spray drying. The firm’s clients include Nestlé, Kellogg's, Grupo Bimbo, Ocean Spray, Bonduelle and Merck.
