Robot controller eliminates high cost cabling

A new robot controller is designed to eliminate high cost cabling and the need for environmental cabinets on processing and packaging lines.

Adept Technology, a provider of intelligent vision guided robotics and related services, said its MotionBlox-60R can help reduce the space taken up by automated lines.

Manufacturers gain floor space, decrease production time, and gain flexibility by being able to move a robotic system as a single component in the factory, the company claimed.

"As end users continue to lean out their operations, floor space is now a premium," said company ARC Research director Sal Spada, as quoted in an Adept press release. "Adept's MotionBlox-60R simply eliminates industrial enclosures placing the automation components within the envelope of the machine."

The MotionBlox-60R controller enables 6-axis robots to run on Adept's SmartServo controller technology.

The compact design of the MotionBlox-60R provides greater portability and flexibility, making it easier to install and mount in multiple configurations, the company stated.

"And with embedded networking and vision technology, the MotionBlox-60R simplifies, and lowers the costs of integration," claimed Adept.

The MotionBlox-60R has a working footprint that is three times smaller than Adept's previous six-axis controller, and eight times smaller than the leading competitor's controller, the company claimed.
