Sirane Ice-Mat seafood crustaceans packaging

Sirane Food Packaging has launched its ‘Ice-Mats’, which release seawater over live seafood during transportation.

Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh Ice-Mats are soaked in saltwater and then frozen. They are laid over crates of live seafood, and slowly release water during transportation to maintain freshness.

This means crustaceans such as lobster and crab remain chilled and in premium condition, the company said. In turn, this increases the value when it goes to market.

Gillian Carter, sales representative, Sirane, said “This new product has been very much driven by demand within the industry – there is a real need.

“It’s a very simple solution which can make a real difference to the condition of live seafood when it arrives at its destination - which can have a knock-on effect on price.”
