Fonterra cleared over Bangladesh melamine fears

30-Oct-2008

New Zealand-based dairy group Fonterra says that a branded milk powder marketed in Bangladesh has been cleared for sale in the country after impendent testing found the product free from the industrial chemical melamine.

Melamine has been at the centre of a contamination scandal that has rocked China’s dairy industry after being linked to thousands of hospitalised infants in the country.

After itself being implicated in the contamination though one of its joint ventures in the country, Fonterra says the clearance from the Health Sciences Authority in Singapore will be backed by an advertising campaign to inform consumers of the findings.
