The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has entered into a cooperative “interagency” agreement with the aim of improving the national food safety system.

The FDA will work alongside the Association of Food & Drug Officials (AFDO) under the Alliance for Advancing a National Integrated Food Safety System Cooperative Agreement Program.

The aim of the alliance is to apply long-term improvements to the national food safety system through inter-agency collaboration, new regulatory surveillance and protection programs for manufactured foods, while providing assistance on legislation.

The inter-agency cooperation was created with the intention of creating a state food safety program to supervise the inspection of food manufacturing and distribution facilities.

Through the alliance, authorites in the US hope to “further advance a national integrated food safety system which supports the provisions of the Food Safety Modernization Act.”

FDA spokesperson Joe Reardon added: “A national integrated food safety system will increase the capacity for federal, state, and local officials, to mitigate the impact of foodborne illness, advance public health and maintain a safe food supply for US consumers.”

Unholy Alliance?

I've read about the Codex and the FDA engaging in a scheme to have power over natural herbs, organic foods and patent medicines - ostensibly to protect us (against ourselves?). Is this what this is about?
