Food and Drug Administration (FDA) staff will work with producers to help prevent contaminated food being shipped overseas, as controls are stepped up following the melamine scare.
Last week the FDA expanded its import controls on Chinese dairy products, food and feed products manufactured in China that contain dairy ingredients.
The extra restrictions follow the deaths of four infants in China linked to consuming baby milk contaminated with melamine.
Within the last few days Chinese officials have called on the US to lift its restrictions, hinting it could damage bilateral trade.
