Food quality tester linked to Internet monitoring service

A spectrometer manufacturer has linked up its Internet monitoring service with its quality testing machines, a move that could help food laboratories improve productivity.

Applied Biosystems will now offer its BioMonitor service for a number of its mass spectrometers. BioMonitor is an Internet service that allows the company to monitor customers instruments. It provides real-time troubleshooting and problem solving.

The service can help laboratory technicians predict and prevent instrument failures, speed up repairs, reduce the loss of critical samples and reagents, and

help ensure the accuracy of results, Applied Biosystems stated.

"This service helps our customers to better manage and improve their laboratory environments, and can significantly improve instrument uptime," the company stated.

The service is available to Applied Biosystems' customers as part of the instrument warranty. The company expect to expand the service to provide remote control, diagnostics and real-time lab analysis.

Applied Biosystems' products are used in life science research and are also used by biosecurity organisations and for food quality and safety testing.
