Irish dioxin report to recommend policy U-turn

A draft report from the Irish Parliament’s joint agriculture committee on last autumn’s dioxin crisis in the pig industry recommends reversing previous plans to amalgamate the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) with two other bodies, according to a report in The Irish Times.

Combining the FSAI with the Irish Medicines Board and the Office of Tobacco Control could result in diluting the focus on the new organisation and undermine public confidence in detection procedures, warns the committee’s report.

The report will be debated by both houses of the Irish Parliament later this month.
