The Food and Drug Administration said that in some situations the PCA’s Blakely, Georgia plant had shipped peanut products that had tested positive for salmonella prior to receiving a negative result through further testing, and in some cases no further testing was done.
The statement was an amendment of the FDA’s previous assertion that the company had waited for a second test to give a negative result before distributing products. The FDA reported that the alteration came after it had “scrutinized many records related to the firm's testing and shipping of lots”.
The PCA has said in a statement: “Due to the nature of the ongoing investigations, we will not be able to comment further about the facts related to this matter at this time.”
