To earn Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 from the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Chicago-based producer Juice Tyme had to demonstrate adherence to food safety best practices. The 34-year-old company reportedly showed capability in following current safety standards, providing staff with adequate safety training, and providing a safe work environment.

Business boost

Matt Martens, Juice Tyme’s executive vice president of operations, told FoodProductionDaily sticking to safe food and beverage practices is a necessity, not just a good idea.

In today’s competitive environment it’s imperative that resources are dedicated to producing high quality, safe products for the consumer,” he said. “Becoming a recognized GFSI facility through FSSC 22000 certification adds to our continuous improvement program as it relates to food safety and quality.”

Safety certification

GFSI was founded in 2000 to increase quality and safety in the food supply worldwide, create consistent guidelines for producers to follow, and cut down on the number of dangerous, high-profile food recalls around the globe.

According to the company, attaining GFSI certification enables Juice Tyme to show its customers and potential clients its juice products are safe to drink and use in other products. Partnering with GFSI also gives Juice Tyme resources to strengthen its safety culture, giving employees additional training.

Established in 1980, Juice Tyme produces juices and concentrates, sugar-free beverages, enhanced waters, energy drinks, cocktail mixers, and other beverage products. The firm offers clients various packaging options, specializing in various bag-in-box containers for foodservice and convenience stores.
