McCormick oregano recalled due to Salmonella threat

McCormick has recalled containers of its Ground Oregano after a test turned up possible Salmonella contamination.

The spice giant is recalling containers of its Ground Oregano product after tests turned up possible Salmonella contamination.

Spice producer McCormick and Co. initiated the recall voluntarily after positive tests for Salmonella turned up at one of its facilities. No illnesses or injuries associated with contact with or consumption of the affected product have been reported to date.

Affected product

The recall involves 0.75-ounce bottles of McCormick Ground Oregano, bearing UPC code 0-523561-6 and code dates BEST BY AUG 21 16 H and AUG 22 16 H; the recall does not impact any other McCormick Ground, Whole or Oregano Leaves products.

The affected product was shipped to several US states, as well as the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and other countries. The recall reportedly affects 1,032 cases of the product.

McCormick staff reportedly has issued alerts to customers and retailers, indicating they should discontinue use of products and dispose of unused portion. The company will provide customers with full refunds for the purchased product.

Recall updates

McCormick representatives have not been available for comment. FoodProductionDaily will provide updates on the incident as soon as they are available.

While Salmonella contamination of oregano is not common, such incidents are not unheard of. Approximately one year ago, Olde Thompson recalled jars of its Earth’s Pride ground oregano due to contamination concerns.

Doesn't McCormick Irradiate Their Spices?

I would have thought that a very large firm like McCormick irradiates their products. A lot of spices and herbs are treated by this process to reduce pathogens.
