Mettler-Toledo Safeline has introduced metal detectors designed to eradicate metal contaminants from a range of food products.

L Series Pipeline metal detectors from Mettler-Toledo Safeline Metal Detection are engineered to pinpoint and remove metal contaminants from liquid, paste, and slurry food materials (including soups, pastas, baby foods, condiments, sauces, and liquid chocolate).

According to the manufacturer, the detectors use advanced detection heads and filtering techniques to increase food safety, processing productivity, and cost efficiency.

Proactive detection

Jonathan Richards, head of marketing for Mettler-Toledo Safeline Metal Detection, told FoodProductionDaily the detectors enable food producers and packaging operations to sidestep costly, embarrassing, and dangerous contamination incidents and recalls before they can occur.

The L Series Pipeline detectors enable food producers to detect hard-to-find contaminants before their liquid, slurry or paste products are packaged, preventing whole batches of products to be rejected and money to be lost unnecessarily,” he said. “This reduction in costs, combined with enhanced security for end-consumers, can provide manufacturers with a strong competitive advantage, enhance brand protection and protect their bottom line.”

Sensitive equipment

The L Series Pipeline metal detectors reportedly provide accurate, sensitive detection for all types of metals, such as non-magnetic stainless steel; and hard-to-detect, non-spherical objects like wire and slithers of metal. The manufacturer’s Metal Free Zone feature is designed to let users position metal fittings on the throughput pipe and other process equipment as close as they want to the detection head without affecting the detection process, reducing the length of product flow pipelines.

Additionally, the detectors are engineered to fit within a compact amount of space. Stainless-steel construction reportedly stands up to heavy wash-downs and harsh processing environments.
