“We are working with both the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Department of Agriculture on this voluntary recall and will cooperate with them fully,” said the firm.

The chicken lasagna items were produced on December 21 last year and the chicken pizza items were made on January 17 and 18 this year.

The recall includes just over 267,000 pounds of chicken pizza products, produced at the Little Chute, Wisconsin plant and chicken lasagna products, made at the Springville, Utah site, said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).

Nestlé Canada said the investigation was ongoing but believed the source of the glass is spinach that was an ingredient common to the products.

The firm said there had been consumer complaints in the US but none involved injury. There have been no complaints in Canada.

“We have informed the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and communicated our decision to recall these products. We are immediately informing all of our customers who received these batch codes and arranging for these products to be removed from store shelves,” it added.
