Kraft Heinz recalls 2m pounds of turkey bacon

Oscar Mayer products have been recalled

Kraft Heinz is recalling more than 2 million pounds of turkey bacon linked to illness.

Oscar Mayer products may be adulterated as they could spoil before the “Best When Used By” date, said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).

The problem was discovered by the firm during an investigation into spoilage-related consumer complaints – however it is unclear how many people have been sickened.

A Kraft Heinz spokesman said: "The Kraft Heinz Company is voluntarily withdrawing approximately 84,000 cases of select code dates and manufacturing codes of Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon due to the possibility that some product may spoil before the “Best When Used By” date.

"Although this premature spoilage is not a food safety issue, the affected product may not deliver the high quality taste, texture and appearance our consumers expect from Oscar Mayer."

FSIS said it has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions.

The turkey bacon was produced between May 31 and August 6 and shipped nationwide as well as being exported to the Bahamas and St. Martin.

Recall products are: the 4-pack (56 oz.) size of Oscar Mayer Selects Uncured Turkey Bacon with “Best When Used By” dates of 24 AUG 2015 through 26 OCT 2015 and the Manufacturing Code P9070 RS19.

The 3-pack (36 oz.) size of Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon with “Best When Used By” dates of 28 AUG 2015 through 20 OCT 2015 and the Manufacturing Code P9070 RS19.

The 4-pack (48 oz.) size of Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon with “Best When Used By” dates of 03 SEPT 2015 through 30 OCT 2015 and the Manufacturing Code P9070 RS19.
