Biesterfeld Petroplas is offering a £50k reward for information leading to the arrest of someone who stole its Marlex polyethylene (HDPE) packs.

In a statement on the British Plastics Federation (BPF) website, the company said it wanted to thank its customers for the ‘fantastic response’ to its appeal, which led to a number of leads, but a large quantity of the product was still missing.

POLYMER THEFT

Approximately 500 tonnes of Marlex packed in 25kg bags was stolen between February 22 and 23 from a warehouse belonging to a third party contractor in the north west of England.

The targeted grades were 5502BN, 50100 and TR131 which are used to manufacture bottles, film, pipe and sheet.

The producer is CPChem and the material is fully traceable via batch numbers and analysis.
Biesterfeld Petroplas is the only authorised distributor for this material in the UK,” said the statement.

Anyone offered a Marlex product from an unauthorised source or who has knowledge about the theft or whereabouts of the stolen brand should report the matter immediately to police.

Any company or individual found handling this stolen resin will be prosecuted.”

The company said the theft will not affect customers as supplies will be available from another warehouse while the investigation continues.

A reward of up to £50k is being offered for information leading to recovery of the stolen polymer.

Anyone with any information can call Cheshire Police on 101 (from abroad +44 1244 350 000) quoting incident number 104 of 24th February. Information can also be left anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
