US company, Dole Food, claims that by signing up to the Water Footprint Network, a global network that promotes the sustainable, fair and efficient use of fresh water resources, it can better measure and reduce its overall environmental footprint.

A company’s water footprint is defined as the total amount of water that goes into producing its products.

Dole’s vice president and director of worldwide corporate social responsibility Sylvian Cuperlier maintains that many of the company’s growing operations and packing houses use drip irrigation and water recycling systems to reduce the amount of water used.

Other major food and drink manufacturers that have joined the network include PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and Nestle

Dole produces and markets fresh fruit and vegetables as well as manufacturing a line of packaged and frozen foods.
