Flavored newspaper ads to lure advertisers back to print?

Pennsylvania-based Flavor First has collaborated with newspaper ink company US Ink to produce flavored strips for food advertising in newspapers, so customers can taste the product advertised.

The strips, called Taste-It Notes, are produced in much the same way as dissolvable strips for breath freshening, and come sealed in a pouch for hygiene and flavor preservation.

President and CEO of First Flavor Jay Minkoff said: “We believe this type of sensory experience helps companies connect to their customers in a completely new and innovative way and drives product trial.”

Meanwhile, US Ink said it is hoping the marketing approach will boost newspapers’ advertising revenue, which has been severely damaged as advertisers increasingly look to the internet.
