Actor Brian Blessed, known for his booming voice, will speak at this year’s British Plastics Federation (BPF) annual dinner on October 11.

The federation, which is the UK trade association for the plastics industry, celebrates its 80th anniversary this year and has appointed president Mike Boswell, managing director of Plastribution, who has taken over from Philip Watkins.

“I am delighted to be elected to the presidency of such a vital organisation for the UK plastics industry,” said Boswell.

The BPF has an extremely strong reputation nationally and internationally and I will be striving to ensure that plastics manufacturing in the UK will have an even more effective voice in the future.”

The Federation will host a ‘Plastics in Packaging’ seminar that will examine key issues facing the plastics packaging industry in the UK, at the BPF offices in London on November 21.

Speakers include Smithers Pira discussing future packaging trends, a study of the implications of the Courtauld Commitment and a case study delivered by Unilever about sustainability. Daniel Stricker from Plastics Information Europe will also talk about the trends for packaging raw materials.
