Star Refrigeration is poised to bring its eco-friendly low-ammonia chillers and freezers to US food firms.

Scotland-based Star Refrigeration, an independent contract specializing in cooling and heating systems, is launching its AZANEFREEZER and AZANECHILLER systems across the pond. The freezing and chilling systems are designed to provide food firms and storage outfits with a better environmental profile than competitive systems.

US debut

Derek Hamilton, the company’s US business development manager, presented the systems at the recent ATMOsphere America 2013 event in Washington, DC. Hamilton made the case for cold-storage companies using low-ammonia systems to boost their eco-friendliness.

According to Star Refrigeration’s sales and marketing director Rob Lamb, sustainability is an increasing concern in the refrigeration field.

Awareness of the importance of using natural refrigerants in refrigeration and heating systems is growing daily, especially since President Obama’s recent climate action speech regarding the phasing out of harmful hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) to protect our planet for the future,” he said.

Lamb added that ambitions carbon-reduction marks set by the American government make ammonia reduction not just a good business decision, but a requirement.

Return on investment

Hamilton stated the AZANEFREEZER and AZANECHILLER systems help conserve costs, reduce installation time and boost energy efficiency. Estimated return on initial investment is four years.

Using the latest aluminium heat exchanger technology coupled with Star’s unique low charge, low pressure receiver design results in high efficiency ammonia systems with a minimal ammonia charge,” Hamilton said.
