Pennsylvania supports Carton Council recycling initiative

One month after the Carton Council of North America launched its Carton Capitals initiative, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has added cartons to its recycling program.

Food and beverage cartons are one of the fastest-growing packaging formats in the country — more than 54% of US households are able to recycle cartons. The Carton Council, a group of carton manufacturers work to divert cartons from landfill.

We applaud the City of Harrisburg for adding cartons to their recycling program,​” said Carla Fantoni, head of communications for the Carton Council and vice president, communications, Tetra Pak.

They now join the 10,000 other communities across the country that understand the need to harness the recyclability of carton packaging to meet their diversion or waste reduction goals​.”

The “Carton Capitals” initiative was launched to celebrate and highlight capital cities that already recycle cartons.

With the addition of Harrisburg, 2.8 million households in 28 capital cities and the District of Columbia can recycle food and beverage cartons in their local programs. This is added to the more than 60 million other households that can recycle cartons in the US, thanks to six years of hard work by the Carton Council.
