RPC Group has joined the likes of Dow, Bosch, Ball Corporation, Ardagh Group and Siemens by becoming part of the SAVE FOOD initiative.

It is a joint campaign by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Messe Düsseldorf against food loss and waste.

The initiative has more than 100 members from the food supply chain who aim to develop solutions to tackle the problems of food waste.

Each year a third of all food is thrown away or lost worldwide, while around 842 million people are suffering from hunger.

SAVE FOOD was launched at Interpack 2011 and a Congress will again take place on 7 and 8 May, bringing together industry, the political world and civil society.

Katherine Fleet, RPC’s group sustainability manager, said: “At RPC we are committed to developing a range of sustainable packaging solutions that help to keep food fresher for longer and the SAVE FOOD campaign provides the ideal forum to show both manufacturers and consumers how they too can make a difference.”
