France and Japan to cooperate on food safety

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) and the Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSCJ) will promote scientific cooperation on collection and sharing of data related to risk assessment.

The five year agreement will boost cooperation in areas including food microbiology, aquaculture, marine biotoxins and contaminants.

It will be characterised by collection, analysis and sharing of scientific and technical data, as well as discussions and sharing of expertise with regard to data collection methods.

Marc Mortureux, director general of ANSES and Dr Hiroshi Satoh, chairperson of FSCJ signed the agreement as part of French Prime Minister Manuel Valls' official visit to Japan.

Japan and Portugal signed a memorandum of cooperation last month​.

FSCJ and the Economic and Food Safety Authority of the Portuguese Republic (ASAE) will promote scientific cooperation on data collection methodologies and sharing related to risk assessment.
