International Paper has shut down one of its paper mills in order to focus on packaging, specialty papers and other businesses.
The company’s Courtland, Alabama mill had been in the firm’s Printing and Communication Papers division. The facility will shut down in stages, with full closure anticipated in early 2014.
Remaining International Paper facilities in the division will focus on specialty papers, uncoated free-sheet paper and other products. It will maintain four other mills in South Carolina, Alabama, and New York State.
Headquartered in Tennessee, International Paper produces a broad range of paper and carton products for packaging, communications, industrial applications and other uses.
