Two employees of packaging company Ball Corp. have landed 2014 Women in Manufacturing Science, Technology Engineering and Production (STEP) honors.

Honoree Mary McDonald is operating systems manager for Ball Corp. Carmelia Van  Horn, another STEP honoree, serves the company as electronics process control engineer.

Lisa A. Pauley, senior vice president of human resources and administration at Colorado-based Ball Corp. said contributions by McDonald and Van Horn have been valuable to the company, and to the industry.

Their recognition reinforces Ball's efforts to encourage and embrace diversity of thought in the company's operations,” she said. “More importantly, it highlights the contributions of two key Ball team members who exemplify our values."

The STEP awards are intended to recognize women that have made contributions in the manufacturing industry science, technology, engineering or production, and helped their respective companies or institutions in the process. The program is sponsored by the Manufacturing Institute, along with Deloitte, the University of Phoenix and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

The two women are among a total of 160 STEP recipients, who will be honored at a reception in Washington, DC, on February 6.
