Toray Plastics claims its Barrialox 1011EG-C1 aluminum oxide-coated polyester film can be run on high speed lines to add a moisture and oxygen protection to food packaging.
With production lines expected to run at faster rates, packagers are looking for products that can be used at high speeds without sustaining damage or degradation.
Barrialox film offers thermal stability and superior mechanical properties, against competing products, such as polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC) coated film and ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH), claims the manufacturer.
The film outperforms, silicon oxide-coated film, and other aluminum oxide-coated film, in the Gelbo flex test, which crushes and twists the film and tests its resistance to pinholing and flex-cracking, the manufacturer claims.
Adhesive or extrusion laminations are possible using the film, which is also suitable for regular and standup pouches, pillows, packets, lidding laminations, and overwrap, the company claims.
Barrialox can be printed on, which allows colourful designs to be incorporated into packaging to attract consumer attention.
Toray Plastics, a subsidiary of Toray Industries, is a manufacturer of polyester and polypropylene films for flexible and rigid packaging, lidding, graphic, industrial, optical, and electronic applications.
