Improved product quality and operational efficiency are benefits claimed by manufacturers Baker Perkins as a result of upgrades to a mixing and forming system for high output bakery plants.

The performance of the company’s Tweedy mixer has been boosted thanks to new design features on its control system that “enhances quality and consistency of the final product by improving the efficiency and ease of use of both standard and pressure-vacuum mixers”, marketing manager Keith Graham told FoodProductionDaily.com.

Recipe management

Ease of operation has been improved through a better recipe management system that utilises clearer, more intuitive graphics. Simpler communication enhances the recipe and schedule management for plants with multiple mixers, as well as making integration with plant-wide SCADA and ERP systems much easier, said the company.

“This can now be done remotely, which can save time especially if there are two machines running the same recipe as they just need to be entered once,” Graham added.

Intelligent features

The mixer now incorporates a number of intelligent features including a scheduling system that maximises efficient use of resources. The upgraded system offers upgraded historical data trending, added Baker Perkins.

The alarm system has been upgraded. In cases where a problem triggers several alarms simultaneously, the intelligent alarm handling feature flags up suggested actions to guide operators to the source of the problem, which can cut downtime.

To minimise installation time site wiring is significantly reduced and software interfaces are tested prior to shipping to site, said a Baker Perkins statement.

The company will be showcasing the enhanced system at its stand at the IBA show, taking place in the German city of Düsseldorf next month.
